Rawat announces to upgradation of 3 local civic bodies in Chamoli
DEHRADUN: Chief minister Harish Rawat on Friday made an announcement to upgrade three municipal bodies in Chamoli district with immediate effect.
With an aim to boost development in the state’s most remote corners, the town panchayats in Gauchar and Karnaprayag will be elevated to municipal boards while the local panchayat of the Ghat area will be made into a town panchayat.

The elevated status of the rural civic bodies will make them eligible for increased funds from the Centre and the state for building roads, drinking water projects and infrastructure to ensure power supply.
The CM who was in Gauchar town on Friday to inaugurate a month-long local fair, said an official government order (GO) will be issued within a week to finalise the upgradations.
The announcement came five months after the Congress-led state government decided to connect with lesser known and socio-economically backward towns by holding a special assembly session at Gairsain in Chamoli district in June.
The CM also promised to build 12 connecting roads and six primary and intermediate colleges in the region.
